Type of Position: Contract/project based

Hours per week: Varies by project, expect 30% to 40% travel.

Key responsibilities / day-to-day job functions

  • Plan and conduct financial, operational, compliance and fraud audit fieldwork including introductory and exit conferences with pastors/pastoral administrators; test revenue and expense cycles of operational and business processes and perform interviews of staff and volunteers
  • Assist in the performance of investigations and prepare related paperwork
  • Draft audit reports, present and discuss findings with parish audit manager
  • Conduct follow-up reviews on previous audit recommendations
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with clergy and staff across all levels within the organization
  • Contractor must use his/her vehicle for transportation to/from audit locations and must be willing to travel to locations throughout the Diocese of Raleigh; overnight travel may be necessary; Diocesan approval of accommodations is required prior to booking
  • Contractor is expected to document actual hours worked on each audit and to complete the audits within the timeframe agreed upon with audit management prior to initiating the audit; timeframes may be adjusted, as necessary

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required
  • Two to three years of audit experience required
  • Must be able to maintain objectivity, confidentiality and impartiality
  • Ability to apply audit concepts and techniques and critical thinking in analyzing fiscal, operational and computer-based systems
  • Ability and flexibility to manage multiple priorities and off-site audits
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive, clear and concise reports and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to travel throughout the diocese as necessary to conduct audits (approximately 30-40%)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuit of Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Public Accountant or Certified Fraud Examiner certifications preferred
