The Student Ministry Coordinator spends a year of service on the Catholic Campus Ministry team.  He/she is hired by the Diocese of Raleigh and is accountable to the Campus Ministry Staff at Elon University. The internship is a 10-month (August to May), 40 hours’/week position (more or less depending on week), with potential of returning for a second year.  While there are some specified responsibilities, there is ample room for creativity and innovation.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Evangelize and minister to the Catholic undergraduate population in order to build up the Catholic Campus Ministry program at Elon
    • Be present with students at CCM activities including Sunday, Wednesday and Friday Masses, dinners, weekend retreats, weeklong alternative break trips, social activities, service events, etc.
    • Invite students to CCM programs, activities, and small groups, especially through personal outreach
    • Build and foster relationships with individual students, with particular concern to first-year students, through one-on-one and team meetings
  • Support CCM Servant Leaders (student leadership team)
    • Work with Servant Leaders to plan and implement student-led activities and programs
    • Help to provide leadership, guidance and encouragement
    • Attend weekly planning meetings
  • Function as Resident Advisor at Elon Newman Center (houses Student Ministry Coordinator and 3-6 students)
  • Assist Campus Minister with the RCIA program, culminating in the Diocesan-wide Confirmation Mass
  • Function as a team with the CCM Staff to perform various administrative tasks and attend larger meetings

General Qualifications:

  • A practicing Catholic
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in pastoral ministry, theology, or related field
  • Team-oriented
  • Able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
  • Outgoing, enthusiastic
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current valid driver’s license
